Woodbridge's Tackett's Mill shopping center has a new tenant, and it's asking neighbors to roll out a mat. Pulse Yoga, a heated and non-heated yoga and fitness studio, has opened its doors at 2225 Old Bridge Rd., with a public ribbon cutting scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, from noon to 1 p.m.

The studio is co-owned by Katie Courlander and Bailey Dawn, both longtime Lake Ridge residents with more than a decade of combined experience in the yoga and fitness industry, spanning teaching, studio management, and corporate franchise development. That mix of perspectives shaped what they wanted to build at Tackett's Mill.

“We intimately know the industry from both the independent and corporate perspectives, and we've incorporated the best of both worlds to create our own studio,” Courlander said. “Pulse Yoga is an independent studio that seeks to become a true neighborhood hub for wellness and community. We are passionate about yoga and building spaces where people feel they belong. What better place to create that sense of belonging than for our neighbors in our own community?”

The studio's daily schedule ranges in intensity, from heated and non-heated yoga to meditation, sculpt classes, and mat Pilates, taught by a team of 13 instructors from a range of backgrounds. “No two classes are the same,” Courlander said. “Our goal is to lessen the stress of living in NOVA by providing our students with a calming and welcoming space where they can breathe, move, and belong.”

That ethos carries through to how the studio describes itself online, under a page titled “Why Pulse?” The pitch is less about the poses and more about what happens around them — a place people stick around after class for the conversations, the community, and “the version of yourself you're becoming in the process.”

For a corridor of Woodbridge that's seen its share of turnover in recent years, a locally owned studio with this much industry experience behind it is a notable addition — and one more reason for readers to make the short drive to Tackett's Mill.

Pulse Yoga is open now, with classes running throughout the week. New students and locals can try the studio through an intro offer — five classes in seven days for $25 — and readers who want to see the space firsthand are invited to the Aug. 7 ribbon cutting.
