Virginia has launched a new hiring hub built specifically for veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses. Virginia Works and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services rolled out the site this summer, timed to launch just ahead of National Hire a Veteran Day, consolidating job listings, career-planning tools, and support resources into a single, centralized place.
The launch came paired with Mission to Hire: The Virginia 100 Veteran Hiring Pledge, a 100-day campaign encouraging 100 Virginia employers to commit to hiring at least one veteran, transitioning service member, or military spouse. State officials say the effort is targeted at high-demand fields — health care, technology, logistics, and the skilled trades — where military-connected talent is often underused despite strong transferable skills.
The website was built through a partnership spanning state agencies, workforce development organizations, and business groups, including the Hampton Roads Workforce Council. Officials say the goal is simple: make it easier for veterans and military families to find careers and connect with the support services already available to them, rather than navigating a scattered patchwork of resources on their own.
For a community like Prince William County — home to Quantico Marine Corps Base and a substantial military and veteran population — this kind of centralized resource carries real local weight. Military spouses in particular face a well-documented employment gap driven by frequent relocations: every permanent change of station (PCS) move can mean starting a job search from scratch, often in a new state with different licensing requirements and an unfamiliar local job market.
