Virginia Railway Express (VRE) will host its sixth annual Tour de VRE this Saturday, Oct. 3, a charity bike ride along the Manassas Line that raises money and awareness for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. The event coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Registration remains open through Friday, Oct. 2.
Riders can choose between two routes. The 35-mile ride starts at 9 a.m. at Backlick Road Station in Springfield and ends at Broad Run Station in Bristow. A shorter 8-mile “fun ride” begins at 11 a.m. at Manassas Park Station and also finishes at Broad Run. Along the way, riders will pass through several communities VRE serves, including Springfield, Burke, Clifton, Manassas, and Bristow. A finish-line celebration will include food, refreshments, swag, and raffle prizes.
VRE created the event to support triple-negative breast cancer research in honor of Maria Foster, wife of VRE’s Kip Foster, who died in July 2021. The $35 ticket includes a commemorative T-shirt, a medal, and free food, with hydration stations along the route and at the finish line. Proceeds benefit the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.
Participants can park at the end of the route and take a complimentary VRE train to the start line. A complimentary bus is also available from Rosslyn and King Street Station to the start line, or vice versa.
