Twenty-five years have passed since the morning that changed how the country measures time, and Prince William County will pause once more to remember. On Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m., neighbors are invited to gather at the Sean T. Connaughton Plaza, 1 County Complex Court, for a quiet evening of remembrance, reflection and music marking the milestone anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.
At the heart of the ceremony is a tradition the county has carried for a quarter century: the reading aloud of the names of the 22 Prince William County residents lost that day, held alongside the memory of nearly 3,000 others across the nation. This year, the evening will also make room for personal reflections from those whose lives were forever reshaped by Sept. 11, and for the voices of the Madrigal Choir from Osbourn Park High School, who will lend the gathering its music.
Members of the Board of County Supervisors will stand among the community for the occasion — not simply to mark a date on the calendar, but to hold space for what that date still means, twenty-five years on.
