As the days get shorter and cooler, Prince William Public Libraries has a slate of October programs aimed at keeping residents healthy and active before the holidays arrive. Programs are held at branches including Central, Dumfries, Montclair, Potomac, Manassas City, and Dale City. Some require registration, so check the details below before you go.

Health insurance help

Health Insurance Assistance with Legal Services of Northern Virginia. Representatives from Legal Services of Northern Virginia will help people apply for Virginia Medicaid and Marketplace health insurance. Sessions are offered at three libraries:

Central Library: Mondays, Oct. 5 and 19, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Dumfries: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Potomac: Wednesday, Oct. 28, 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Movement and wellness

Hatha Yoga Workshop, Montclair. Monday, Oct. 5, 6 p.m. This beginner-friendly workshop for adults comes with an instructor. Participants bring their own mat and any props they want to use.

Tai Chi With Prince William Area Agency on Aging, Potomac. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, and 29. The slow, meditative movements are meant to build strength and flexibility, reduce stress, and improve balance.

Morning Stretch Chair Yoga, Manassas City. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 10:30 a.m. This easy chair yoga class is designed to improve overall well-being. Registration is required.

Health and Wellness Book Club with Method Gym of Dale City, Dale City. Saturday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The group will discuss “Unbreakable: Go Strong. Live Long. A Woman’s Guide to Aging with Power” by Vonda Wright, MD.

Local history

Local History Walking Tour Group With RELIC, Liberia House. Friday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The walking tour takes place at Liberia House, 8601 Portner Ave., Manassas. Registration is required.
