WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Dale City’s Independence Day Parade is back on Saturday, July 4th — and this year, it’s carrying a little extra weight. Themed “Show Your Spirit for Our Nation’s 250th,” the 54th annual parade will send more than 100 entries marching east down Dale Boulevard in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
The parade steps off at 10 a.m. at Kirkdale Drive and travels east along Dale Boulevard to Gemini Way. Spectators are welcome to line the route along the median and sidewalks of the eastbound lanes. The announcer stand is located near 4421 Dale Blvd at the Gemini Way VDOT lot — a prime spot for families to catch the action.
A Community Institution, Now in Its 54th Year
The Dale City 4th of July Parade is one of the longest-running Independence Day traditions in Prince William County, organized and run entirely by a coalition of 11 local nonprofit organizations. It receives no county or government funding, and this year's production costs approximately $50,000.
That bill is covered through generous donations from Amazon and the 11 sponsoring nonprofits, along with small participation fees paid by vendors and organizations taking part in Family Fun Day. Donations and additional sponsorships are welcome to help offset costs. The parade itself is free for all spectators.
Organized By
The parade is hosted, developed, and staffed by these 11 nonprofit organizations:
• Woodbridge Elks Lodge 2355
• American Legion Post 364
• Dale City Moose Lodge 2165
• DAV Disabled American Veterans Chapter 48
• Dale City Knights of Columbus
• Montclair Lions Club
• Dale City Civic Association
• Dale City VFW Post 1503
• Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington Hylton Club
• Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, Stations 10, 13, 18, & 20
• Dale City Masonic Lodge 319
Family Fun Day: Noon to 2 p.m.
When the last float clears Gemini Way — generally around noon — the celebration moves to the VDOT lot at Gemini Way for Family Fun Day, running until 2 p.m.
The event features food trucks, kids’ games, a bounce house, face painting, and booths from community organizations and local vendors. This year’s participants include the Dale City Little League, School of Rock Woodbridge, Kona Ice of Bristow, TJJ Island Catering Food Truck, the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office, Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital, Americans in Wartime Experience, Divine Majorettes, the NAACP Prince William, and many more community groups, faith organizations, and local businesses.
New This Year: Emergency Helicopter Landing at 12:45 p.m.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., a local emergency helicopter is scheduled to land on the Dale Boulevard side of the VDOT lot — weather and emergency calls permitting. Once on the ground, the crew will open the aircraft to the public, allowing families to look inside and learn how it serves the community. It’s a rare up-close look at emergency response in action.
